Hi friends! Happy Monday! Did you have a nice weekend? I spent mine celebrating a few birthdays and enjoying the gorgeous weather we’ve had. For everyone on the East Coast – I’m keeping a close eye on ya and hope the weather improves quickly!
One theme that came up throughout our first week of classes was: maintaining a healthy school/life balance. Almost every professor that we met this week encouraged us to pursue outside hobbies and to have some fun. Pretty awesome, yeah? I took full advantage of a light(er) homework load this past weekend!
My friend Erin, who I’ve mentioned many times on the blog, celebrated her birthday yesterday. Her two requests were: bloody mary’s and a hike. Done! I didn’t do any of the hike planning; I just picked up the morning coffee and enjoyed the ride 🙂 Kate and Erin picked Lake 22 – you can’t go wrong with suggestions from natives!
Lake 22 is my favorite hike I’ve completed so far in the Pacific Northwest (PNW.) Granted, I’ve only done three hikes in this area; but, I really loved the variety of terrain and trail. The hike started out in a heavily wooded area, with enormous trees that climbed into the sky. You could hear the sound of rushing water in the background, and we passed at least a few waterfalls in the first few miles of the trail.
As we gained elevation, the trail wound through patches of trees shedding leaves of red and yellow. The sky was foggy from the changing temperatures, and the contrast of the grey sky against the lush trees was breathtaking.
↑ Thank goodness for self-timers on the iphone 🙂
↑ Erin and Kate navigating over one of the waterfalls along the trail. I think Kate landed in one at the end 🙂
The hike was ~6 miles roundtrip and took us 4 hours to complete, including stops to eat our snacks and enjoy the view. The hike climaxed at Lake 22 (doh!), where they had a boardwalk surrounding the entire lake.

Thanks, ladies for a great weekend. And another very happy birthday to Erin! xo
