I feel uplifted and inspired. Why? Because I’ve found my people.
I had two amazing meetings in the city yesterday: the first was with Carlene Thomas of Healthfully Ever After. Carlene is a DC-area Registered Dietitian Nutritionist who seriously rocks – both as a person and at what she does. After months of reading her blog, watching her youtube videos and drooling over her instagram, I reached out to her to ask if I could pick her brain about her business.
We talked about her experiences in her dietetic internships, how she started her business, the frustrations and triumphs of blogging, and any advice she had for newbie RD’s such as myself. Our conversation didn’t begin with me explaining what I’m doing or why I want to study nutrition; instead, we focused on how I can build a business that combines my interests and passions. For once, I was talking to someone who knows the industry and understands the obstacles I will face. I left feeling reassured that I’m on the right path and that everything I am dabbling in now will eventually pay off.
Shortly after my meeting with Carlene, I hopped on the metro and met up with three other incoming UW MPH/MS/RD students for drinks and appetizers. It’s surreal that 4 of 12 people in our cohort are all making the move from DC to Seattle.
I can’t possibly express how excited I am to spend the next 2.5 years with these girls. They are not only driven, intelligent and out-of-this-world nice, but they get it. Every fear or joy that I’ve felt in the past two years – they’ve felt it too. Not that I had any doubts before, but last night really solidified that going to UW this year, with this cohort, is the path I was always meant to take. I’ve found my people – and it’s freaking awesome.
